Copy and paste the following into an email and send it to all your contacts:

Our little community of Wakefield has just finished the construction of a fantastic new community centre.  Now it is time to finish the grounds with a professionally design skate park and sports pad.  The goal is to build a 4000 sq.ft. skate park and a 4000 sq.ft. multi-season, multi-purpose sports pad.  You can help make this come true by voting in the Aviva Community Fund contest.  All you need to do is give us one vote per day from the 1st of Oct to the 15th of Oct. at this link.  http://www.avivacommunityfund.org/ideas/acf13316

You can also “like” the Wakefield Recreation Association facebook page https://www.facebook.com/WakefieldRecreationAssociation or the Wakefield Activities for Youth facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Wakefield.Activities.for.Youth for quick links to vote.

You can read more about the project here: https://wakefieldrecreationassociation.wordpress.com/the-rink/

RDS winter pictures

May 25, 2012

RDS was at the Community Centre yesterday to do a follow-up on the Wakefield Community Centre – winner of the 2010 Kraft Celebration Tour.

They are asking for 2 pictures of kids skating/playing on the Wakefield Rink (last winter pics).

Unfortunately, I do not have any and I am looking for 2 pictures if you have any.

WRA will award a Wakefield Mug (available at your Community Centre for $5 by the way) to the best pic provided.

Please email the pics to: patpoitras@live.ca before Sunday.

There is a bit more than 2 weeks left if you want to nominate your community project.
Projects from Wakefield will quite likely not be chosen as finalist, but I believe community projects outside
of Wakefield would be considered. Go to: http://www.tourneedecelebrationkraft.ca/ for info.

You will notice a very cool picture of the Wakefield Tour if you acces the french site

Use of soccer field at the WCC

May 22, 2012

This was posted to the Wakefield News regarding the use of the fantastic new soccer field at the WCC.

The Soccer Club of La Pêche is proud and happy to announce that the new soccer field beside the community center has been opened and is ready for use. This fantastic facility is a great gem in our expanding community. The municipality has given the soccer club exclusive scheduling rights and the responsibility of managing this field as well as all the soccer fields in the municipality, we are happy and prepared to work with all interested parties to allow as much community use of these facilities as possible. It should be remembered this facility has been made possible due to thousands of volunteer hours and municipal support, and really needs to be treated with respect and prudence. So, some basic, common sense rules, need be remembered and employed when using the fields.
The field is for the children of our community first and foremost and all scheduling on their behalf takes precedent above all other activities.
Please insure no debris is left on or around the field.
Please do not climb on or move the goals.
Please do not drive any vehicle on the field, car, bike or four wheeler.
Please do not use the field when it is saturated after a heavy rain. If you are unsure, contact a member of the executive, we will help determine when it is safe to use. One hour of irresponsible use on a saturated field can cause irreparable damage and destroy a field that otherwise should have lasted many years.
In order to avoid conflicts and insure that all participants understand the basic rules of use, we respectfully request notification of any group wishing to use the field.
Presently the field has been booked for youth soccer for Monday, Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday and Friday night from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm and Saturdays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. There has been a weekly booking request for pick-up recreational ultimate Frisbee (contact Jay) on Saturday afternoon/evenings and we have earmarked a timeslot on Sunday evenings from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm for adult mixed recreational pick-up soccer. Other times are available for use provided it is done respectfully. There may be other times in the seasonal schedule when the field could be available.
If you have an organized group and wish to try to schedule a regular event, please contact us and we will do all that we can to insure the best use of the field time.We wish to remind all members of our community that the field is in its infant year and is, as such, fragile and vulnerable to damage and overuse. If we wish for this facility to last, we need to treat it with care and be vigilant against potential abuse.
Sincerely,
The executive of the CSLP
