Guidance for Newcomers to Canada about Drinking Water and Wastewater Operator Certification in Ontario

We warmly welcome newcomers to Canada interested in a career in drinking water and wastewater operations. Our aim is to provide you with the information and services needed to navigate your career journey effectively. As you pursue your career and residency goals, it’s important to clarify that in Ontario, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada have advised that an Operator-in-Training (OIT) certificate or licence is not eligible for “certificate of qualification” points in Express Entry applications for permanent residency.

Updated Training requirements for drinking water operators guide

The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has updated the Training requirements for drinking water operators guide. These updates include expanding the topics accepted for on-the-job practical training and providing additional examples. The rules for training requirements have also been clarified to assist drinking water operators and water quality analysts in completing their annual training requirements and to prevent delays in the renewal application process.
