Shawn Lemon Suspended Indefinitely

Though he retired 2 weeks ago (perhaps with foresight of the outcome of this active investigation, though there is no evidence to support or refute that theory), Shawn Lemon has been suspended indefinitely by the league for wagering on CFL games, including games he played in during the 2021 season while he was a Calgary Stampeder.

Why this is indefinite is puzzling. Indefinite feels impermanent. While suspending any league or team individual involved in gambling on the CFL indefinitely is an option for the commissioner, with Lemon retired, a lifetime ban, also an option for the commissioner (see Article XI 11.08 of the CFL Constitution) would give a clear and definitive message. Any further investigation could proceed, but no adjustment to the suspension would be needed. Either way, if Lemon wishes to un-retire, he would need to apply to have the suspension reduced (which would likely require him to sit a season or more, which makes a return unlikely).
