Cowichan Valley ATV Club

The Cowichan Valley ATV Club is an affiliate of the Provincial ATV association, ATVBC. There are five other ATV clubs on Vancouver Island (Alberni Valley Hill Climbers, Sooke, Nanaimo/Mid-Island ATV Club, Comox Valley ATV Club, and Campbell River ATV Club) and 37 other ATV Clubs on the mainland. Together we form an organization that meets regularly to ride ATVs and organize other related events. This provides a forum for social interaction between like-minded outdoor enthusiasts. CVATV has 230 members from a South Island area that encompasses Victoria, Saanich and the Cowichan Valley to Ladysmith

We are striving to promote our sport in our local communities as a responsible, fun, safe, and challenging recreation that is suitable for almost anyone. Our goal is education of the public and other riders about the fun of ATV riding in a safe and environmentally diligent manner. We as a Club are united in our approach to private landowners and government leaders in attempting to gain ATV access to private/restricted lands and promote sustainability of the ‘sport’ for Members and future generations.

Note – You have to be a member of the CVATV club in order to view the Facebook page where club rides and events are posted.

  1. Hi, please consider this a request for information on joining the Cowichan Valley ATV Club. While I currently do not own an ATV, my wife and I enjoyed ATV riding for several years. We sold the ATV after my wife was no longer able to ride due to an ongoing back problem. I since purchased an adventure motorcycle and am looking forward to continuing exploring off road on my own. I understand in order to access Mosaic Forest, one must be a member of an approved club, hence my request for membership.
Thanks for any information and consideration you can provide.
    Cheers

    1. Jim,
Unfortunately Mosaic has excluded dirtbikes from the agreement. The following comes from the agreement.

      “ATV” means a single-operator four wheel all-terrain vehicle designed and manufactured for off-road use, informally referred to as a ‘quad bike’, ‘quad’, ‘utility terrain vehicle’, ‘side by side’ or ‘four wheeler’, and includes “sit on” and “sit in” ATVs, but expressly excludes 2 wheel motorcycles, informally referred to as ‘dirt bikes’, and vehicles referred to as ‘dune buggies’, ‘mud buggy’s’, and other home-built or modified 4×4 vehicles;

      1. Darn, that’s most unfortunate (for me and other responsible Adventure bike riders).
Thanks for taking the time to reply and provide that information.
        Much appreciated.
Am assuming then that all the Facebook posts I see from folks on motorcycles on Mosaic property is done so illegally then??
I’ll follow up with Mosaic direct to see if they will grant special permission.
        Thanks again.

      2. Not sure you received my reply as I had some issues with send so am resending here just in case. Darn, that’s most unfortunate (for me and other responsible Adventure bike riders). 2. Hi There,

I have recently bought a membership through atvbc. I was hoping to get some club information, and information on what is required for land access etc.
    Thanks
    Cody

    1. Cody,

We have a meeting on Monday to finialize that details on the roll out for Decals, waivers, etc. Following that meeting an annoucement will be made of what is reguired of each member and the data to collect for the decals and keys. The agreement will be posted along with maps and gpx files of the various nogo areas at that time.
      Cheers
      Jack

  3. Good morning we belong to Nanaimo club and are members of the atvbc and mid -island club so how do we join your club thank you very much Jack

    1. Jack,
I’ve emailed you a pdf showing the riding area Mosaic has given us.

      Adding or removing a club?
Members cannot add or remove a club from their membership. Please email membership@atvbc.ca with your instructions and a new invoice will be emailed to you.

      Cheers
      Jack

  4. Hello, I just recently joined on the 24/23 and I am not having much luck in finding info on club and club events. All I can find is a calendar that shows the next ride on the 13th/Jan and that location would be given 1 week prior to event, cannot find anything on this event, If anybody can help me navigate to this info, that would be much appreciated. Cheers Larry

    1. Larry,
The calendars for both Sooke and CVATV are to help you plan your weekends only. The details of the ride are posted on the CVATV Facebook page and show the staging area and times of departure.
      Cheers
      Jack

  5. I’d like to confirm if the Sooke ATV club has riding areas shared with the CVATV club on Mosaic land. My dad lives in Lake Cowichian but hubby and I live in East Sooke. It would be nice to ride together in both areas.

  6. I was speaking to the security guard recently at the gate for Holt Main. He stated that 2 wheel vehicles may be added to the agreement in the near future. Is this correct?

    1. Tom,
We do not know of any discussions with Mosaic on allowing 2 wheell vehicles as part of our contract with them.
      Jack

      1. I was just told at the gate that this was recently agreed upon, that dirt bikes could have access under your membership. However, for my son, who has basic insurance on a dirt bike (I.e. not road worthy), he was denied access until he could show membership to the Cowichan ATV association. So of we apply for him, how long does it take for you to approve his application? Does seem odd that anyone with street legal bikes can access, but we need a membership with Cowichan ATV for a non road bike.

      2. This is what it says in our Mosaic contract which is renewed every fall.

        (a) “ATV” means a single-operator four wheel all-terrain vehicle designed and manufactured for off-road use, informally referred to as a ‘quad bike’, ‘quad’, ‘utility terrain vehicle’, ‘side by side’ or ‘four wheeler’, and includes “sit on” and “sit in” ATVs, but expressly excludes 2 wheel motorcycles, informally referred to as ‘dirt bikes’, and vehicles referred to as ‘dune buggies’, ‘mud buggy’s’, and other home-built or modified 4×4 vehicles;

      3. ok thanks. We drove back to where we could get reception and started the application for a membership, almost hit submit but then I saw this set of notes so didn’t submit. Guess there is no way for a kid on a bike to go riding there now.
