Here’s what’s happening with us....

March 22 – Rocky Mount KOA, NC

This was a one night stay over between parks. We found out, that, this is actually their specialty. They really don’t have long staying visitors, but at this time of year they rely on transiting Snow Birds. The weather continues to be horrible. Rain, wind, and cooler temperatures.

March 14-21, 2024 – Myrtle Beach State Park, SC – Site 26

Here we are, back to Myrtle Beach. We last visited here when the dogs were still puppies, now they are almost two years old. This is one of our favorite spots. In the end we will be here for 8 nights (it was supposed to be 9, but if you read the last post, you will see why…. The dogs absolutely love the ocean. It was todays highlight.

March 11-13, 2024 – Crooked River, GA Site 20

Crooked River State Park…….I’ll never forget this place. The park is gorgeous, the public washrooms/showers are extremely clean and the Camp Hosts and Volunteers keep this place amazing! We will always keep those pleasant thoughts as we deal with our unfortunate situation.

On our pre departure circle check, Stephanie discovered that we broke one of four leaf springs on the trailer. This made the trailer immobile. Time 08:30. We called both Good Sam and CAA to help us out. Nobody was available or they were coming from very far distances. Stephanie went to the office to update them we would not be leaving anytime soon. They gave her a list of local RV Mobile Mechanics. (Nothing that GS or CAA were able to come up with…) Mike was his name and he travelled with two others, his brother and father. They were quite the team. And they were able to things done. It took a little longer than expected but they did fine work. Stephanie treated everyone with pizza when they were finished. Because it took so long we spent an extra day at Crooked River which delayed our stop in Myrtle Beach.

March 10, 2024 – Site 306 – Our last day at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground.

OMG, this was a great time. The weather has been fantastic, just what we were looking for. 25c-29c during the day, 18c at night. Sunny the vast majority of the time. We only had rain while we slept. If we could afford to stay here for a month or more, we would. The atmosphere was awesome, the campground was quiet, and everything had the Disney charm. As our “neighbours” left we saw that Cast Members come and SCRUB, yes scrub the concrete pad clean with a deck scrubber, then pressure wash it afterwards. If the pad was empty for two days or more the would be back with leaf blowers to clear any fallen leaves. We had the dogs with us on this trip, so we didn’t go into the parks, although we did check out the dog boarding facility. It look quite decent. Tomorrow we head to Crooked River State Park, located beside the US Naval Submarine Base. We are going to stay for 2 nights before heading to Myrtle Beach.

March 07, 2024 – Disney World’s Fort Wilderness Campground – Transportation Extravaganza!

Because I travelled with the dogs for 9 days before Stephanie joined me in Orlando, she insisted I set out on my Disney Transportation Extravaganza!

I started the day at 10:30, with a boat from Fort Wilderness Campground to the Magic Kingdom. it ended when I returned home at 18:30 at Capmsite 306.

The journey went like this…..boat from the campground to Magic Kingdom’s Gate. The resort Monorail through all the Seven Seas Resorts and around for a second time. Stopping at the Contemporary Hotel, then the Polynesian Hotel. I thought I would sail to the Floridian Hotel, but the boat went Back to Magic Kingdom again. I walked the path to the Floridian hotel, then took the monorail back to the TTC. I thought I got onto the EPCOT monorail, but mistakenly got on the express Monorail which meant i did a full circle to the Magic Kingdom, where I caught the River Boat back to the TTC. I got on the EPCOT monorail, had views of EPCOT, then boarded a bus to Hollywood Studios. I caught the SKYLINER, and did the full circuit, ending up at the back end of EPCOT, I walked Disneys Boardwalk and caught a bus to the Animal Kingdom Gate. Bused to the Animal Kingdom Resort, then a bus back to Magic Kingdom. Finally the boat back to Fort Wilderness Campground. It was a great day!!!!

March 3-4, 2024 – Tropical Palms, FL – Site 234

My last stop before Stephanie joins me. Stopping here 2 days before Stephanie arrives will allow me to settle and runs some errands before she arrive to celebrate her retirement!

We arrived around 14:00 hours and set up. We certainly kept an eye to the sky as a storm was moving its way closer to the site. Site 234 was our assigned site. It was nit bad but they certainly had much better sites if you wanted to spend a bit more money.

The dogs and I had a great start to the night. A little grocery shopping, and dinner at the Cracker Barrel. When we returned to the site, I decided exercise was on the “before going to bed” list….but when we left I decided to lock the truck keys in the trailer, while I locked the camper keys in the truck. When we returned from our walk, I was locked out! I had to make a call to the AAA to give me a hand. 2-1/2 hours later I had to call them back to make sure my call was triaged correctly. I’m glad I did. A half an hour after I made the call someone showed up to pick the door lock on the truck and let me in. Man it was annoying

Stephanie arrived on Monday night, so I ran a couple of errands, did the laundry and clean the trailer before she arrived. The dogs, and myself were very happy to see her after 10 days.

March 2, 2024 – Crooked River State Park, GA – Site 2

Crooked River State Park in Georgia…OMG, what an amazing park! We stayed at a Georgia park last September and were really impressed with its cleanliness, site setup, and of course price.

This was a one night stay. I have tried to keep the travel days short for Luke and Leia’s sake. We will stay at this park for 2 nights on our northern swing.

We are in snake and alligator country. I was not nervous on our hike at first, but when I came across two warning signs in the first 50 feet….I started wondering.

February 27 – March 1, 2024 – Myrtle Beach SP Site 245

This is our first “relax” stop of the trip. The dogs and I spent 4 nights here. The weather was mixed. Three of the days had high’s of 27, lows of 18. One day we only made it to 12c during the day. We did a lot of exploring, but did not get to the water. There was always enough wind to keep the sand on the beaches airborne. Not good for the dogs’ eyes.

We will return to Myrtle Beach on the northern swing of our trip, when the weather will even be warmer.

February 25-26, 2024 – Emporia/I95 KOA, VA – Site 7

Our first camping spot. A nice little KOA with some really nice sites, but….i think we had the smallest in the park. It’s a good lesson on “you get what you pay for”. I do have to say the management was very helpful and pleasant.

We are using this two day stay to “de-winterize” the trailer. The temperatures were great. And me and the dogs did a little exploring downtown Emporia

February 24, 2024 – Best Western Carlisle, PA

Day one of the retirement trip journey. Stephanie will celebrate her soft retirement on February 27, 2024. With her blessing I decided that I would start the southern trek with Luke and Leia on the 24th.

Our first night was spent in a hotel, as it was still a little cool to camp. The dogs loved it, and although we shared a king sized bed, there still was not enough room.
