Originally VGStreams was intended as a solution for game streamers who wanted a custom page for their channel, marathon, or races. The plan was for user accounts allowing for selecting colours and layouts—this was never completed.
Then in December 2013 the site was overhauled, rebuilt from the framework-up, to be a simple to use way to watch individual or multiple streams from any service or channel. API’s provided by the streaming services are used to display channel and game information, as well as gather currently live channels.
It’s a Secret to Everybody
It all started with a the — now non-existent — site itsasecrettoeverybody.com, which consisted of only a screen shot of the namesake scene from The Legend of Zelda video game. In April of 2010 that site went dead, to become a generic parking domain. I felt this was a shame, so I bought the simplified domain to bring it back to life.
Hosting a site with a single image seemed to be a waste to me, so I added more memorable quotes from both the original The Legend of Zelda game, and Zelda II: The Adventures of Link. I plan to expand to include The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and other games in the series, while maintaining its simple interface.
This site marks my first use of Responsive Web Design using CSS media queries. The games have their quotes listed separately, in parallel blocks on wider displays. For smaller displays and devices these game blocks are instead ordered in a vertical fashion, and as the window gets smaller the feature image scales to maintain a 100% width. Media queries are further used to improve the design when viewed on an iPhone, due to its lack of element:hover support.

This is my biggest single personal project, and keeps getting bigger and bigger. The final goal is a complete Pokédex (index of Pokémon), with all appropriate data from the long series of games from Nintendo.
Right from the start I wanted this to be something easy to use on a smartphone, and created the layout with that in mind. This site forced me to teach myself about the numerous requirements for performance and interactions on small screen and/or touch devices.
