Why You Might Want to Use Online Spelling and Grammar Checkers

Every writer makes mistakes. They may make errors in verb agreement, type the wrong preposition, or use incorrect punctuation. In addition, there are many types of grammatical errors that are hard to spot when you’re rereading your work. For example, you might not spot when you type “in” instead of “on,” “of” instead of “off,” or type “the the” before a noun.

Computers, tablets, and smartphones have built-in spelling and grammar checkers, but these tools generally just find misspelled words or basic grammatical errors. To give your writing a once-over, you might want to use an online spelling and grammar checker. Here’s why.

How to spot fake Apple security alerts via text, phone, email, or web

Apple recently contacted users in 92 countries around the world, warning them that they had been targeted by a “mercenary spyware attack.” This term replaces what Apple used to call “state-sponsored attacks,” and covers attacks using spyware such as Pegasus, created by the NSO Group. Apple contacted these individuals by both email and iMessage. Also, when logging into their Apple ID account in a browser, users would see a “Threat Notification” bar with the date on which Apple sent those communications.

But if you get a message that claims to be from Apple—whether by SMS text message, iMessage, email, or a phone call—how can you know whether it’s really Apple or not?

Let’s examine the reasons why Apple might legitimately contact you (and how they’ll do so), and how to recognize scams.

How to protect yourself from SIM swapping attacks

SIM swapping is an attack through which identity thieves or scammers take over your mobile phone number. When your SIM card is swapped, a scammer can make and receive calls on your phone number, and they can also send and receive text messages. Since many services send two-factor authentication codes via SMS texts, SIM swapping can potentially enable criminals to access your bank account, email, and other online accounts.

How to Customize the Scrivener Toolbar

Scrivener has lots of features, and many of them are available by clicking a menu and choosing a menu item, or by using a keyboard shortcut if you know what it is. But you can also trigger many of Scrivener’s features by clicking buttons in the toolbar, the bar with buttons at the top of the window. By default, Scrivener displays a set of toolbar buttons, but you can customize the toolbar to remove features you don’t use and add buttons for features you use often. Here’s how.
