NLT's 2023-2024 Season

UNDER THE SAME MOON

Romance, Rage and Rituals

In psychology, the moon is a feminine symbol, universally representing the rhythm of time as it embodies the cycle. The phases of the moon symbolize immortality and eternity, enlightenment — or the dark side of Nature herself.

In astrology, the moon governs the realm of subconscious (and at times conscious) emotions — the part of ourselves which we often can't express, but feel on a deep and soulful level. Tapping into the Moon's energy cycles means connecting to the energy of openness, healing, renewal, intuition and wisdom.

All three of our plays this season take place UNDER THE SAME MOON, albeit at different times and locations- ancient Rome, modern day Minnesota, and a strange, cursed town called Black Falls.

Our first show reflects how the moon gives our libidos a lightening bolt of sexual stimulation and helps to fuel our most instinctual desires. This is the time in the moon cycle where we feel the most energy, so it's only natural that the energy gets transformed into romantic interest during this time. A PHOENIX TOO FREQUENT brings the Romance.

Our second show highlights the thought that at the New Moon and Full Moon, like the tides, our emotions are pulled to the surface and feelings are heightened — stirring up emotions, provoke bizarre behavior, and even cause physical illness. DONNA ORBITS THE MOON brings the Rage.

The moon affects human behaviour in other ways — such as traffic accidents, crimes, and suicides, which appear to be influenced by the lunar cycle. Our final show explores the superstitions of a full moon.Since ancient times, full moons have been associated with odd or insane behavior, including sleepwalking, suicide, illegal activity, fits of violence and, of course, trans-forming into werewolves... CANDY & THE BEAST rounds out the season with the Rituals.
