About Us

Victoria Target Theatre Society

Target Theatre is a group of mature actors who create and perform entertaining and educational plays on seniors’ issues to increase awareness of topics relevant to an aging population and to contribute to fostering healthy communities. Our core values are: Knowledge, Growth, Service and Creativity.

While Target focuses primarily on themes of immediate relevance to seniors, their families, or their caregivers, we are also committed to creating accessible theatrical experiences with diverse casts for engaged audiences of all ages.

Started in 1986 as a group of older adults with an interest in the performing arts, Victoria Target Theatre Society became a non-profit society in November, 1990 and has since grown into a company of mature actors who provide a voice for the concerns of seniors.

Target uses theatre to address seniors’ issues because theatre stimulates and moves people in a way that is different from ideas learned through lectures or books.

Backed by a volunteer board of directors, and with the help of an artistic coordinator, the company is continually developing new material as it finds its services more and more in demand.

Here is a short video about a recent collaboration Target did with teenagers, about sex of all things!

You’re Doing What? At Your Age?! by Leah Tidey (used with permission)

This 5-minute video* explains and illustrates who we are and what we do.

Target stages plays several times a year. From 1995 until 2007, we averaged five performances a year and since 2007 we have averaged two plays a month. During the last twenty-one years, the actors brought their plays to Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver, as well as the Victoria area. Although most of our performances take place around Victoria, we also apply for travel grants to make our plays available to smaller communities in other locations on Vancouver Island and the rest of BC.
