Beautiful!

This stunning quilt was made by Wilma Whiting and donated in memory of her sister, Grace Whiting, for our CANHAVE charity. The long arm quilting was done by Laurie Moynes. It is on display at the shop and really needs to be seen in person to appreciate the detail.

April at The Country Quilter!

April, already!  Longer days for quilting and hopefully more sunshine this month. Another sign of spring is Easter. We wish you a happy weekend with family and friends.

Our Charity projects continue. There are Touch Quilt Kits available at the shop. These small quilts for dementia patients are always needed. Jane will be hosting a workshop for these quilts on April 10 from 9:30 to 2:00. All supplies are provided, and it is a fun day with other quilters.

Tracy will be hosting a “Sleep at Home” retreat, on Friday, April 5 and Saturday, April 6. Come and sew all day, leave everything and come back on Saturday to continue. Lunch is included each day.

Quilt As You Go Table Runner is on Wednesday, April 24 from 9:30 to 1:30. This is an easy to create new spring runner for your table. It makes a great shower gift too!

March 2024 at The Country Quilter!

Here we are starting the third month of the “New Year”. Have you kept all your resolutions?

We continue with our charity projects for anyone interested! Touch Quilt Kits are available to pick up, these small quilts are easy to make, and always needed.

Smile Quilts are made for the Children’s Aid Society, to be given to children entering the system, Apparently, they receive things for babies more often than for older children; they have requested quilts for children age 4 to 17. Quilts can be 40 x 48”, up to twin size. There is a workshop once a month when people share ideas, orphan blocks, fabrics no longer the favourite and other scraps. Donations of quilts may be brought to The Country Quilter for the next pick up. Join the work day too! Next one is Friday, March 1st 9:30 – 1:30pm.

Knotty Girls meet Friday, March 8th at 10am. We welcome new members to the group.

Landscape Class is Friday, March 15th, at 10am. This month Jane will be showing how to plan a landscape piece. It is a good time to join the group and learn how to turn your favourite photo into a textile piece.

Saturday, March 16 is a St Patrick’s Green Sale! Plan a green project! There are still fat quarters 3/$10.

Wool Applique is Wed, March 20th. There will be some new projects for Show and Tell. Come and share ideas and work on your project with this lovely group.

The Shop will be closed on Good Friday and Saturday (March 29th and 30th) of Easter weekend, and then it is April!!

Long Arm Quilting Service: Fiona is working to keep up with the projects she quilts for you. She is at the shop for consultation on Tuesdays, but you can drop off your quilt any time the shop is open. If you bring in a quilt this month for quilting, you will get 10% off the batting purchase.

Thank you!

Another Smile Quilt for Children’s Aid, made at the Retreat by Roberta Romanko. Thank you, Roberta!

If anyone is interested in making or donating a quilt for CAS, the minimum size needed is 40 x 48″. They can be dropped off at The Country Quilter, in Richmond.

February at The Country Quilter!

January certainly has reminded us of what winter in Ottawa is like! But be glad that there are signs of better days to come. The sun is now setting after 5:00 p.m. and although we haven’t had many sunny days they are getting longer.

February is a busy month, but we have an extra day for quilting this year!

The usual clubs all have openings if you would like to join. It is always good to spend a couple of hours with other quilters. It is amazing what tips and ideas you can pick up and you can share your work with others too.

Finishing School is every Tuesday, from 9:30 – 1pm

Knotty Girls Friday, February 9th, 10:00 to 12:00

Landscape Quilts Friday, February 16th, 10:00 to 1:00

Wool Applique Wednesday, February 21st, 10:00 to 1:00

Smile Quilts Workshop for CAS Friday, February 2nd , from 9:30 to 1:00, the next one is Friday, March 1st.

Fiona’s Heart Quilt: Saturday, February 3rd can be made into a table runner for Valentine’s Day or made scrappy to help use up your stash. This is an easy paper piecing pattern. She will also have a more intricate pattern to give to you in class.

Family Ties: Saturday, February 10th, 10:00 to 1:00. Cherril has designed a paper pieced pattern for this quilt. You can make a pillow or a quilt. It is a good way to use all those lovely ties that are hanging in the closet. Make a keepsake with family ties.

Sleep at Home Retreat:  On Friday,February 23rd and Saturday the24th  from 9:30 – 3:30 Tracy has planned another fun retreat. Bring along your own projects to work on, leave it all out and come back to continue on with your quilting the next day. Lunch and snacks are included. Garden and Church Quilt Show 2023!

A HUGE thank you to all who attended the show yesterday! Despite the grey smoky skies, wind and a few raindrops, over 150 guests joined us! Having the quilts in the church showcased them beautifully under the gorgeous stained glass windows and rich wooden pews. Thank you to St Paul’s Church for opening their doors for this, AND for their fabulous luncheon! And thank you to the many donations to the Food bank and CANHAVE, and to those who donated books and/or purchased one!

The ONLY complaint we heard was how difficult it was to choose the Viewer’s Choice Award! Results are in:

1st: Jane Roszell’s ‘Walk in the Forest’

2nd: Carol Marshall’s ‘Rose of Sharon’

Third: Jane Roszell’s ‘Animal Friends’ and Grace Whiting’s ‘Cardinals’ (how appropriate!)

Also thank you to Arlene and Pat, our very talented wool applique artists in residence. Their creations are beyond words, their kindness and enthusiasm are infectious. Here is just a sample, please see the link below for more of their work!

And a big shout out to the many volunteers who spent the day helping at both venues. Without your enthusiasm and support, the show would not be possible. Take the day off today!

Quilts in the Garden 2022!

From The Country Quilter’s Quilts in the Garden event Saturday …spirits were high, temperatures were low, but creativity and generosity were contagious! And the sun eventually did shine!

A huge thank you to all who shared their beautiful quilts and handiwork, handmade guitars and woodwork for the displays. Stunning!
And those who volunteered at various areas… the book sale, CANHAVE table, sign In table, those who helped to set up and take down tables, quilts, clotheslines, those who donated books and items for the food bank…
And to the guests who showed up, The Country Quilter thanks you all!
