Jackie Brown has spent more than 25 years as a professional communicator, communications specialist and writer. She began her career as a journalist after completing her studies at Mount Royal College. A transition into corporate communications led to her work at companies including the Calgary Health Region, Foothills Hospital and Theatre Calgary before co-founding verbMedia in 1997. She’s been fortunate to work extensively with Intelligent Futures, on projects for clients including Canada Lands Company, Wascana Park, The City of Calgary and Strathcona County. Other verbMedia projects include work for imagineCalgary, the Town of High River, the Calgary Board of Education and the Calgary Regional Partnership. Jackie has been honoured with awards from the International Association of Business Communicators (both National and International) and the National Health Care Public Relations Association. An admitted nerd, she recently completed the Technical Writing certificate at Mount Royal.

Mike Fisher
Mike Fisher has won 10 awards for writing and photography from four different organizations (NATJA, TMAC, SFJ and IPW) in 2017/18, and has been on the editorial teams for three CASE awards in 2019. He has more than 30 years of journalism and marketing experience including online, print, radio and television. He has written more than 1,000 travel stories and marketing items, including creating magazines, vacation guides, websites and e-newsletters. Mike was a staff columnist and reporter with the Calgary Sun from 1989-1998 before leaving to be a communications and strategy executive for two years with Exxecom Inc. in Toronto, a creator of online marketing tools. He has written news, opinion and feature articles for The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, Postmedia, Canadian Press, CBC and many other outlets. Mike has also written video, audio and onscreen text education products for web and disc delivery, for Interactive Solutions New Media in Toronto. He did a Literary Arts writing residency at The Banff Centre.
Thomas & Brianna Yee
Thomas and Brianna Yee have recently joined the family business at verbMedia after graduating from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) in 2021. While both are well-versed with digital graphics, the twins combine their knowledge from their time at SAIT in their individual programs.
Thomas’ experience with the New Media Production and Design (NMPD) program has furthered his web-based abilities and allowed him to work with The Cochrane Environmental Action Committee and The Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame where he excels in designing various graphic materials for small businesses and enhancing websites. He has also worked with Sweet Gypsy Bespoke Chocolates to enhance their website, gaining valuable experience in the process.
Brianna’s time with Graphic Communications and Print Technology (GCPT) has given her insight into the print-side of the graphics industry where she gained experience designing print-ready graphics. Specializing in typography and graphic arts has led her to work with Intelligent Futures modifying signage posters and preparing them for print production during her practicum at SAIT. As a team, the twins have had the opportunity to work with Gaia Protein, Plateia Planning, Grand Gifts, and the Cochrane Farmers’ Market where they combine their knowledge of the graphics, web, and print industries.
